Vörösmarty Theater
The Vörösmarty Theater has always played a significant role in the cultural life of Székesfehérvár and the surrounding region and has been named Vörösmarty Theater since 1913 (after the Hungarian poet, Mihály Vörösmarty).
The theater was inaugurated in 1874 with a speech by Mór Jókai (a notable Hungarian novelist) and a performance of József Katona’s Bánk bán as the opening show.
During World War II, the theater was completely destroyed by fire in 1944 but it reopened on 7 November 1962 thanks to the incredible community effort.
The renovation and expansion in 2003 resulted in a virtually new theater, now home to a very close-knit, permanent company. The theater strives to maintain a balance between classic and contemporary plays in its repertoire. Each season offers an exciting and diverse program, including large-stage performances, chamber plays, children's shows, musical productions, and guest performances.
