The Gerenda Foundation
The Gerenda Foundation is a public charity prominently supported by Hotel Szárcsa. It was established with the aim of supporting people in financially difficult situations or those in need of financial assistance, including former and current colleagues.
The Foundation's Board of Trustees consists of representatives of the owners and members elected by the employees of Hotel Szárcsa. Accounting for the Foundation is provided by Talentum 2003 Kft. free of charge.
In 2024 as extraordinary support, the Foundation's Board of Trustees offered 660 000 HUF to siblings left orphaned and distributed an additional 540 000 HUF among 7 applicants. The awarded amounts were used for trainings, obtaining a driver’s license, garage construction, school expenses, and dental surgery.

The Foundation's main sources of revenue are the following:
- donations made by couples who get married in the restaurant of Hotel Szárcsa or who celebrate an anniversary, in exchange for which their names and wedding or anniversary dates are engraved on the old beams of the restaurant. As we 'age', the donated amount changes each year. The price for the engraving is the age of Szárcsa in that certain year X 1 000 HUF, in 2024 it is 33 000 HUF.
- raffle proceeds from the New Year's Eve party and our end-of-year staff event
- percentage of the revenue equaling our age on our birthday on 6 June each year
- 33% of the proceeds from the rental of hotel bicycles
- the fee on returnable bottles collected at the Hotel
- 1 % of personal income tax donations

As of 2016, the Foundation is a public benefit organisation, so it is possible to donate 1% of your personal income tax. When preparing the annual tax return, you have to declare the Foundation's tax number (18516830-1-07) on the required form or electronically via Ügyfélkapu.
In 2023 we launched two calls for applications, for which we received a total of 10 applications. The Board of Trustees approved a total grant of 822 000 HUF. The awarded funds were used to renovate flats, buy furniture, household appliances, and vehicles.
In 2022, the Board of Trustees awarded a total of 790 000 HUF to 10 applicants and supported one applicant with an extra donation of 300 000 HUF. The money was spent on the renovation of flats, the purchase of furniture, household electrical appliances, firewood, and bicycles. 110 119 HUF derived from the 1% personal tax income donations in 2022, the total amount of which was distributed among the applicants by the Foundation.
In 2021, the Foundation supported 8 people who work in hospitality, most of whom are raising minors and who found themselves in a difficult situation due to the COVID pandemic, with a total amount of 1 057 500 HUF.
In 2020, the Foundation supported 4 colleagues in difficult situations due to the COVID pandemic, with a total of 700 000 HUF.
In 2019, the Foundation transferred a total of 1 050 000 HUF for 11 applicants. The money was spent on car repairs, university tuition fees, funeral costs, housing renovation and childbirth costs.
In 2018, the Board of Trustees of the Gerenda Foundation supported a total of 13 applicants, 10 of whom submitted their accounts, providing a total of 620 000 HUF in donation: the beneficiaries spent the donation on house renovations, furniture, holidays, dental treatments, cars, housing support.
In 2017, the Foundation provided more than 10 applicants with donations of 1 310 000 HUF: the beneficiaries spent the money on student loan repayments, home renovation, household equipment and funeral expenses.
